Project Overview
This project to form new DT classroom was originally to be built using traditional trench foundation footings to a sloping site with a beam and block floor to the height of adjoining classrooms, after works commenced the ground was found to be very poor and full of services. The sloping ground was then removed completely and a reinforced raft foundation formed, the structure was then honeycombed block walls to carry beam and block floors, traditional cavity wall construction to all external walls.
The roof structure was metsec beams with insulated single ply roof system above, parapet walls built to the perimeter of roof area capped with aluminium copings.
Aluminium windows and door sets fitted to match the colour of adjoining elevations.
Internally workbenches were fitted to the perimeter of room to carry all woodworking machinery that had been moved across from old DT rooms, nonslip flooring laid to all floor areas, and fireproof vertical blinds fitted to all windows.
The change in foundations allowed for a large undercroft area to be formed beneath floor structure thus giving the school a large storage space for all raw building materials used in DT. Duration 16 weeks.
