Project Overview
This Teaching Block was constructed on the site of the existing dairy and dutch barn. The university therefore wanted to replicate the design of the historical building within the new state of the art building.
70% of the building structure was in the form of a steel frame, whereas the remaining floor area included glu-lam beams. The external envelope was SFS, clad with timber, insulated render, curtain walling and ‘TECU’ Gold Shingle cladding. The roof – in the steel framed section – was 3 nr standing seam barrel vaulted roofs, whereas over the glu-lams was a Kalwall translucent panel.
The building housed a large lecture theatre, together with multiple classrooms and teaching spaces, together with a double storey break out space.
As this was a design and build project, there were a number of collateral warranties – including the mechanical and electrical installation. Duration 42 weeks.
