Project Overview
The works included 2 nr extensions and internal remodelling of the existing SC Building, to house the newly increased in size School of Engineering.
The location of the building and new extensions were challenging, in that they were to the rear of the site and enclosed on all 4 sides. The extensions were also being built within parts of the existing building.
The front of extension housed the new reception area of the building, and was designed to replicate a Formula 1 Pit Lane. The rear extension was the new project space where the students worked on their motor racing cars.
The extensions utilised various different construction materials, with high-specification Alucobond Cladding building installed in and out of the building.
The internal remodelling included the new decoration, ceilings and floorings in the existing building.
The existing building had a 3 storey glazed central atrium, which the 2 extensions were to be constructed out from. Mid way through the build process, the glazing on this atrium was found to be in poor condition, so we had to replace all the curtain walling on this atrium. Duration 49 weeks, JCT design and build contract.
