Pave Aways to transform Wellington’s historic Market

Pave Aways is delighted to be appointed as the construction partner for the exciting refurbishment of Wellington’s historic market.

This contract, awarded after a rigorous tender process, will see us breathe new life into a vital community asset, ensuring its preservation and enhancement for generations to come.

Our award-winning experience in working on historic buildings makes us ideally suited to this sensitive restoration and modernisation project. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Group Ginger Architects, whose expertise in market design will be invaluable in creating a vibrant and contemporary space.

The redevelopment aims to retain and enhance the market’s role as a retail, food, and leisure destination, while also introducing a dynamic arts and entertainment programme. It will provide high-quality spaces for both existing and new independent businesses, boosting the local economy and attracting increased visitor numbers. Improvements to the market’s layout, accessibility, and flow will be carefully implemented, all while preserving the building’s cherished historic features.

Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council Leader, said:

We are pleased to have appointed Pave Aways as the main contractor meaning that works to preserve and transform the market for generations to come is now a step closer. We’ve taken the time to carry out comprehensive surveys needed to understand the fabric of the building and secure a delivery team who can deliver our investment proposals.

“We want to work closely with traders throughout the next stages of the project to ensure they are fully engaged in all the new plans. These are exciting times for Wellington Market and Wellington town centre.

“This investment will make the town centre better for everyone – whether you live here, work, or are visiting. It will be a more attractive area, support businesses and improve the economy. We are committed to creating a better future for Wellington and we can’t wait to see the transformation begin.

To ensure a smooth process, we will be working closely with Telford & Wrekin Council and Group Ginger Architects to engage with market traders, carefully planning the programme and phasing of works, and addressing individual business needs to maintain a ‘business as usual’ approach as much as possible.

Steven Owen, Managing Director at Pave Aways, commented:

Pave Aways is incredibly proud to be entrusted with the transformation of Wellington’s historic market. This project allows us to showcase our commitment to preserving local heritage while creating modern and functional spaces for the community.

We’re particularly pleased that this project, like our other work in Wellington including the refurbishment of the former YMCA building on Walker Street and the decarbonisation work at Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre, allows us to contribute to the ongoing regeneration of the town.
