Work is now underway on a significant project at Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre in Telford, marking a major investment to improve the facility’s energy efficiency and create a more sustainable future.
This transformative project is part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and includes a wide range of energy efficiency improvements.
Key works involve the installation of a new mechanical and electrical system, featuring heat pumps on an external slab area, along with new heating systems, roof and wall insulation, and upgrades to the swimming pool environment.
In addition to the energy-focused enhancements, the project includes a refurbishment of the health suite, changing rooms, and other areas within the centre. Improvements such as new lighting, ventilation upgrades, and redecoration will create a more comfortable and welcoming environment for users.
Plans also include new lockers and additional changing cubicles, with further details to be unveiled as the project progresses.
Councillor Carolyn Healy, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Planning and Sustainability said:
Our commitment to increase our energy efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint across our leisure portfolio is evident through these major investment works. This, our third site in three years, will see sustainability benefits as well as an improved experience for our members and pay-as-you-go users at the site.
Steven Owen, Managing Director, shared his thoughts on the project:
We’re proud to be delivering this important scheme at Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre, which reflects our expertise in sustainable construction and commitment to supporting local authority’s sustainability targets.
Alongside our work at 1 Walker Street, this project highlights our dedication to working with local contractors and trades, ensuring these investments bring both environmental and economic benefits to the region.
This marks the latest in a series of projects supporting Telford & Wrekin Council’s vision for a greener, more sustainable borough. The works at Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre will not only contribute to reducing the building’s carbon footprint but will also significantly enhance the quality of the facilities for the local community.
