Pave Aways is pleased to be at the forefront of restoring Wellington’s former YMCA building at 1 Walker Street, a key part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s vision to regenerate the area. This iconic Victorian structure, which has stood empty for over 15 years, is set to become a vibrant mixed-use space featuring nine high-quality apartments on the upper floors and a newly refurbished retail unit on the ground floor.
With support from Telford & Wrekin Council, the Towns Fund, and the Capital Regeneration Programme, the transformation of 1 Walker Street will help revitalise the heart of Wellington. This project is part of a larger initiative to enhance Wellington’s historic conservation area, which includes other key landmarks such as Wellington Market and Wellington Orbit, creating a community-centred environment for both residents and visitors.
Councillor Lee Carter expressed enthusiasm for the restoration efforts, saying, “We’re delighted to see work underway on this historic building, creating new living and retail space to make Wellington a vibrant and thriving community.”
Graham Wynn, Chair of the Telford Towns Fund Board, also noted the project’s positive impact: “Through the Towns Fund and additional funding, we are transforming Wellington and bringing historic buildings such as 1 Walker Street back into use. This project underlines our commitment to making Wellington a thriving and vibrant community which residents and visitors can be proud of and boosting the local economy.”
Steven Owen, Managing Director at Pave Aways, stated, “We are delighted to be restoring this iconic building in Wellington, revitalising a piece of history while contributing to the broader regeneration of the Telford and Wrekin area. This project offers a wealth of opportunities for local businesses that reflect our values and commitment to construction excellence to work alongside us. We look forward to collaborating with local businesses to create a lasting positive impact.”
Pave Aways is proud to support these regeneration initiatives, helping to safeguard the heritage and future of Wellington.
