We are thrilled to hand over a total of £10,148 to West Mercia Search and Rescue (WMSR), our Charity of the Year!
Chosen by by way of an employee vote, the WMSAR provides a lifeline to Shropshire and surrounding counties as they help find missing people, save lives in floods and respond to critical call-outs alongside emergency services.
Throughout the year, we’ve been hard at work fundraising for this fantastic cause. Last August, we conquered the challenging Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) on a sponsored sunrise hike. Then, in April, we took on the incredible challenge of walking the entire 177-mile Offa’s Dyke Path in just four and a half days!
Our Christmas raffle was another huge success, thanks to the generosity of our subcontractors and suppliers who donated fantastic prizes.
Some of the superstar team who were instrumental in completing our fundraising challenges presented the cheque at Ercall Wood Academy where we’re currently building a new three-story science block, a dining hall extension, and refurbishing classrooms.
Andy Neal, Search Planner & Fundraising Officer at WMSR, expressed his gratitude:
You cannot imagine our surprise and delight when given the presentation cheque! We are so grateful to the staff of Pave Aways for their fantastic support and for choosing West Mercia Search and Rescue; throwing themselves wholeheartedly into fundraising for us.
As an entirely volunteer charity we rely on the generosity of our local communities to stay operational, to keep our specialist vehicles on the road and cover the ever-escalating costs of running the team so that we can help missing vulnerable people and their families.
We know that a large amount of sweat and tears (and blood-blisters) went into the raising of this money and it’s hard to express thanks for that amount of effort.
You’ve been there for us this last year and we will be there for you if you ever need us. Thank you.
Charlotte Davies, Finance Director at Pave Aways, commented: “We are delighted to support a local charity chosen by our employees. It’s great to see our team come together to raise money for such a worthy cause.”
100% of the funds raised will go towards supporting WMSR’s vital search and rescue missions in the area, which are carried out by a team of dedicated volunteers.
Our commercial director, Victoria Lawson will be talking at the upcoming Shropshire Chamber of Commerce ‘Charity Networking Group‘ on 6th September, sharing stories on what drives us to support great local charities.
