Joe’s journey from apprentice to site manager

A big congratulations to our own Joe Harrison, who has just achieved his NVQ Level 4 qualification in Construction Site Supervision!

As well as his work and studies with Shrewsbury Colleges Group, Joe has further built his knowledge of the trade by completing a Level 2 C&G Diploma in Site Carpentry.

Reflecting on his journey, Joe expressed his gratitude, saying, “A big thank you to Simon and Tom for mentoring me through my apprenticeship. Also a big thank you to all the Pave Aways lads on site, I really appreciate everyone sharing their knowledge and skills with me. This has helped me massively to develop in my career”

Joe’s enthusiasm for his work was evident as he shared his experiences, “I really enjoyed working at Lawley Village Primary School during its earlier phases, working on the engineering with Simon, Jack, and Jack. I also enjoyed being hands on at Shrewsbury School, being able to work with loads of different trades. I enjoyed the fast pace of it as there was always something to be getting on with.”

Joe was honoured as ‘Trainee of the Year’ at our annual employee awards this year, a testament to the impact he has made since joining Pave Aways.

Joe developed his skills while working alongside our excellent site managers on our projects at Packwood Haugh School and Lawley Village Academy. Now, Joe has taken on the role of managing his own site at Buttington Primary School, where we are replacing windows and doors throughout the building, ensuring everything is ready for the new academic year.

Managing Director Steven Owen said: “Joe has proved himself to be a brilliant member of the team. He has a genuine enthusiasm for construction and that shines through in his commitment to his work and study.

“Joe is a shining example of how apprenticeships can be a great route into the industry and lay the groundwork for a very positive future.”

Sabrina Davies, Training & Wellbeing Manager at Pave Aways, also praised Joe’s achievement, “Well done Joe, this is a fantastic achievement and an exciting start to your career in site management.

“Apprenticeships offer fantastic opportunities to learn, develop, and grow through gaining a qualification alongside on-the-job learning, providing a strong foundation to support careers from day one.”

In other exciting news, Pave Aways has been shortlisted for the ‘Medium Employer of the Year’ in the inaugural Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Apprenticeship Awards. We are also proud to sponsor the ‘Construction Apprentice of the Year’ category, further demonstrating our commitment to nurturing the next generation of construction professionals.

We are incredibly proud of Joe’s accomplishments and look forward to seeing his continued growth and success within the company.
