A group of budding builders have developed new-found construction skills after taking part in one of our free build a bench workshops in Welshpool.
The participants at the session at the former Oldford School site, which we are converting into offices, a family centre and nursery for Powys County Council, came from a range of age groups with their own motivation for attending – some were looking to explore their interest in construction industry careers and others wanted to build-up new practical skills.
Two teams, named ‘Take your time’ and ‘Top class’, supervised by our carpenter Jon Goss and labourer Steve Morgan, were tasked with designing, assembling and painting an outdoor bench from materials such as pallets and other recycled matter.
Participants got to try their hand at measuring, sawing and architectural design as a part of the process, ending the day with two wonderfully unique benches.
Our construction director Jamie Evans put his expertise to good use in judging the work, declaring it to be a draw. Everyone who took part received a certificate of attendance and a Pave Aways goody bag to take home.
Thank you to everyone who took part and to Tudor Griffiths for donating the paint.
