Investing in our team is a key priority to ensure we have a skilled workforce able to deliver the highest possible standard of construction for our clients.
Last year, our staff spent more than 3,500 hours on academic and skills based training. That included everything from health and safety training to professional qualifications.
James Pringle, one of our multi skilled site labourers, completed his NVQ Level 2 in Site Carpentry in just four months. He joined Pave Aways last year after working as a technician on a high dependency ambulance for a private medical transport service.
His skills were assessed on site and the qualification enables him to hold the blue CSCS card you need to work on a construction site.
James said: “I had previously worked on building sites but this qualification has formalised the skills that I have. My previous experience and being assessed ‘on the job’ helped me to gain this NVQ, which taught me important organisational skills, in a short time.
“Since joining Pave Aways, I’ve completed a health and safety course, learned about working in confined spaces as well as carrying out asbestos training. I’ve learned a lot in a very short time and it has definitely motivated me in my day to day work.”
We also have a number of other employees who have recently completed NVQs in General Construction (level 2), Site Management (level 6) and Contracts Management (level 7) with others working towards these qualifications.
Our Accounts Manager Charlie Davies is also in her final year of studying to become a Chartered Global Management Accountant whilst quantity surveyor Ben Jones is hoping to gain membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors through an Assessment of Professional Competence.
